Sports clubs get £200,000 boost
SPORTS facilities in Perth and Kinross are set to benefit from nearly £200,000 of investment.
Community sport across Scotland will receive a £1.5 million sportscotland investment, including Blairgowrie and Rattray CFC and Aberfeldy Sports Club.
The two clubs are among 18 projects across Scotland to share a total of £1,506,263 from sportscotland to develop existing facilities or create a new home for sport and physical activity.
Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Football club have been awarded £67,100 towards a new four-team changing facility next to their 3G pitch.
It is hoped the project will allow for an increase in membership, with a particular focus on engaging more young people and women and girls.
Aberfeldy Sports Club have been awarded £120,710 towards a new mixed-use clubhouse facility on the site of the existing clubhouse currently used by Aberfeldy Golf Club.
The new clubhouse will include segregated men’s and women’s changing rooms, showers, toilets and meeting rooms, a bar/restaurant and areas for leisure and lifestyle events.
The project was initiated by the Aberfeldy Golf Club and Aberfeldy Rugby Football Club but will be available for use by all amateur sports clubs and available for hire by the wider community.
Welcoming the investment, Aberfeldy Sports Club secretary Bill Bruce said: “We hope to start construction within the next few months and look forward to opening a high-quality facility which will make a very significant contribution to sport and wellbeing throughout the community.”
Trustee chairman and project lead at Blairgowrie & Rattray Community Football Club Sandy Thomson added: “This investment will go towards the cost of building a new community pavilion which will comprise of dressing rooms, showers, toilets and more importantly a social space which can be used by the whole community.”
