Council urged to fix drain
PERTHSHIRE politicians are calling on Perth and Kinross Council to fix a drainage problem.
Murdo Fraser, MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, and Councillor Chris Ahern, who represents the Perth City ward, raised the issue of a burst or collapsed drain on Lochie Brae, Bridgend.
They say heavy rain causes flooding, which is a “hazard” and causes “disruption” to road users and pedestrians. Perth and Kinross Council confirmed they will be investigating the drain.
Mr Fraser said: “The issue we are facing is that there seems to be a burst or collapsed drain on Lochie Brae, Perth.
“Every time we have heavy rain we see water flooding down the road, which is a serious hazard to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
“This has been going on for months and seems to be caused by water pouring out of a drain or manhole cover at the top of the brae. This issue is of great concern to residents and causes inconvenience for road users.
“I contacted both Scottish Water and Perth and Kinross Council to ask who was responsible and have been told that the council’s roads team will investigate the matter.
“We hope that his matter is resolved as soon as possible to prevent further inconvenience to road users.”
Councillor Ahern said: “This problem has gone on for some time, with disruption to road users and pedestrians in the area.”
A Perth and Kinross Council spokesperson said: “We have been in discussion with Scottish Water to establish ownership of the drain.
“Scottish Water have, however, determined it is not theirs.”
