Stars made to pay for terrible start against Clan

-

DUNDEE Stars got off to a horrible start and found themselves 7-1 down against Glasgow Clan before eventually losing 8-5 last night.

Dundee fell behind inside the opening 80 seconds when Matt Pelech latched on to a pass and buried his effort high past Lucas Brine in goal. The visitors were soon 2-0 down as Gary Haden converted on seven minutes.

The Taysiders’ night went from bad to worse as Jake Bolton extended the lead to 3-0 in the 12th minute and, on the 16-minute mark, Matt Barry added No 4.

The second session did not start any better as ex-Star Philippe Sanche broke down the ice and slotted home Glasgow’s fifth.

Dundee pulled one back on 26 minutes as Anthony Rinaldi fired home the rebound from Brent Beaudoin’s saved shot. However, Charlie Combs, another former Star, then slotted the puck underneath

Brine to extend the lead to 6-1 in the 32nd minute and, 45 seconds later, Dyson Stevenson’s slapshot slipped through the grasp of Brine for number seven.

The third period saw Stars find a second as defenceman Elijah Vilio scored his first goal for the club.

Spencer Naas then fired high over the shoulder of Antti Karjalainen to cut the lead to 7-3 with seven minutes left.

Chris McKay smacked home another on 52 minutes and Stars captain Drydn Dow really piled on the pressure as he brought Dundee within two after he backhanded a loose puck into the net with 72 seconds left to play.

However, Glasgow relieved the pressure when Robert Lachowicz scored into the empty net with two seconds remaining.

Stars now have to regroup quickly before a trip to Belfast Giants tonight.
