Wins set teams up for top-of-the-table clash

- BY JUNICUS

BROUGHTY Athletic inched closer to the league title with an impressive 2-0 win over East Craigie at Whitton Park on Saturday.

Rory Faulkner scored the opener against his former club to give the Fed a half-time lead and Jamie Reid sealed the points when he doubled their advantage in the second half.

The win sets Broughty up for Wednesday’s top-of-the-table clash with Lochee United and they will be looking to repeat their win when the sides met a few weeks ago.

Lochee prepared for Wednesday with a crushing 6-0 win at Coupar Angus.

The Bluebells scored three in each half with Ryan Paterson cracking in a hat-trick, while Kerr Hay, with a brace, and Scott McComiskie were also on the mark.

As far as Wednesday’s game goes it’s a mustwin game for the Bluebells as defeat would surely end their title chances.

North End are still in the frame after their hard-fought 1-0 win over Downfield.

There was nothing between the sides in a goalless first half, but Cammy Dow broke the deadlock when he gave the Dokens the lead in the second half and it proved to be the winner.

Carnoustie picked up three points with a 4-1 win at Laing Park against Scone Thistle.

The Gowfers took the lead through Ross Fraser, only for Scone to reply with an equaliser from Ross Cameron.

The home side regained the lead through Dale Reid to go in at half-time 2-1 ahead. Reid struck again early in the second half when he converted a penalty and an own goal completed a comfortable win for Paddy Conway’s side.

Kirrie Thistle continue to be a thorn in the flesh for Tayport, as Stewart Russell’s first-half header saw the Angus outfit leave with three points.

Arbroath Vics came from two down to earn a 3-3 draw at Letham.

The Perth side got off to a fast start and were two ahead after 24 minutes through strikes from Aidan Edwards and Andrew McKenzie.

Vics rallied and battled back strongly to level with goals from Ross Findlay and Connor McFarlane.

It got even better for Vics when Scott Milne fired them ahead on 71 minutes, but Shaun Simpson saved the day for the hosts with an equaliser with two minutes to go.

Violet completed the double over Forfar clubs with a 1-0 victory over Forfar WE at Glenesk, with Calum Kelly netting the Pansies winner.

Lochee Harp made it three wins in a row when goals from Matthew Riley and Daniel Dorovic helped them to a 2-1 win over Forfar United at Beechwood.

Brechin Vics ended a run of defeats when Dom Naglik’s goal was enough to give them a 1-0 victory over Dundee St James.

Montrose Roselea and Blairgowrie shared the points in a 1-1 draw, with Euan Duff’s goal for Roselea cancelling out an earlier Watson goal for Blair.
