Tayport move fast to appoint Shields

- BY JUNICUS

TAYPORT have moved swiftly to replace manager Daryl McKenzie after he departed the club by mutual consent.

The new man at the helm is George Shields who returns to the dugout after a spell out of junior football since he left Lochee United.

Shields could not have chosen a stiffer test for his first game in charge at the Canniepairt with the Fifers facing league leaders Broughty Athletic.

The Fed will show little change from the side that won at Scone while the Fifers will be without the suspended Jamie Gill.

Lochee United head to Perth to face Letham. The Bluebells’ title chances depend on them winning their remaining matches but they also require Broughty to slip up in the run-in.

Manager Dougie Cameron accepts they must avoid dropping points but they are on a good run of form and with no fresh injuries they are looking forward to their trip up the A90.

North End face Scone Thistle at home and, like Lochee, they must aim to pick up maximum points from their remaining matches.

With 11 matches to go it’s a tall order but they are the in-form side in the league and there is a belief in the camp they can do it.

The Dokens are minus Jack Allan and Jamie Montgomery who are both suspended while Scone once again have selection concerns with five players out although Ross Loudon is available for selection.

Downfield’s hopes of reducing their backlog of fixtures were dashed when their midweek fixture at Kirrie Thistle was cancelled because of a waterlogged pitch. The Spiders are keeping their fingers crossed their match at Montrose Roselea goes ahead.

East Craigie travel to face Brechin Vics. The Shipbuilders will be without the injured Robbie Norrie but Aiden McDougall returns from suspension.

Violet meet Dundee St James at Glenesk and after last week’s great win over Montrose Roselea, the Fairfield side are up for the challenge.

Arbroath Vics meet bottom club Forfar United and it will be familiar territory for United boss Connor Yeats who was assistant manager with Vics before taking charge of the Guthrie Park club.

Cammy Gauhl, Jamie Crosby and Jackson Davie return to boost United’s chances but Joel Nixon and Jude Duguid are out for personal reasons, Jay McDonald is suspended and Marc McCagh is still injured.

Vics are without the suspended Lewis Raeside but Ryan Buick, Matty Keogh, Scott Milne and Rhys Stewart all return.

After last week’s disappointing draw at Arbroath Vics, Carnoustie manager Paddy Conway could make changes for their trip to Foxhall Park, while Coupar Angus will be looking for a reaction to their 3-0 defeat at Tayport.

Lochee Harp’s winning run ended with a defeat in their local derby against Lochee United and they will be hoping to get back on the winning trail at Forfar WE.

The Beechwood side will be minus Daniel Hart, Daniel Edelston, and Elliot Tosh who are suspended, while West End are hoping to bounce back after their 3-0 defeat at Kirrie.

Kirrie Thistle will show little change from last week and Blairgowrie manager Marco Notarangelo has no injury worries as the pair meet at Westview.
