Tayside futsal teams in title fight

-

PERTH could see new national futsal champions crowned this weekend.

Two Tayside teams remain in the running in the final matches of the campaign.

Reigning champions PYF Saltires have two matches to clinch a fifthstaight Super League title. In their way are top-flight new boys Aberdeen.

Aberdeen lead the table going into their final match of their debut campaign at UHI Perth.

The clash between PYF Saltires and Aberdeen will follow Dundee against Letham Santos at the same venue.

Dundee finished last season as runners-up and can go one better this time around – but only if they win and the PYF versus Aberdeen match finishes in a draw.

If Aberdeen win, the title is theirs. A PYF win would keep them in the hunt with one more game to play.

PYF Saltires skipper Kyle Ballingall said: “Aberdeen can win the league on Sunday, so we know they’ll be determined to win the game. We have to match them in every aspect while sticking to our own game plan.”

Only a win will do for the Dundee against Perth side Letham Santos.

Dundee’s Rob Black said: “Obviously, we are in the underdog position needing results to go our way but, if we were offered this position to be challenging to win the league at the start of the season, I’d have bitten your hand off.”

For Aberdeen, it would be a remarkable achievement to win the national title just 14 months after entering the futsal world.

They registered a perfect record in the regional league to achieve promotion to the Super League and won the Scottish Cup at the first time of asking.

Now they are looking to cap an impressive start to life in the sport.

The PYF Saltires against Aberdeen match kicks off tomorrow at 7.10pm at UHI Perth, following the Dundee versus Letham Santos clash at 5.10pm at the same venue.

Entry is free for spectators.
