‘True inspiration’ gets nominated for award
FORMER Dundee Citizen of the Year Alice Bovill, who has spent a lifetime dedicating herself to volunteer organisations throughout the city, has been recognised with a nomination for a national lifetime achievement award.
Now chairperson of the Tenants Information Service (TIS) Board, Alice was recognised for her dedication and hard work in the Scottish social housing sector.
Earlier this year Alice also reached the milestone of her 80th birthday.
Her nomination was marked at the AICO/HomeLink Community Awards 2024 ceremony in Birmingham on Thursday night where, despite not being chosen as the outright winner of the award, she celebrated her recognition with colleagues from TIS.
Described by her colleagues as a “true inspiration”, she has served for 28 years on the TIS voluntary board of directors, dedicating her time to effecting positive change across the Scottish social housing sector and contributing to the national housing agenda.
Alice first held the position of treasurer with the organisation before being appointed chairperson in 2016.
She is also chairperson of St Mary’s Association of Tenants and Residents in Dundee, best known for supporting the local people to secure a £1 million community centre for the St Mary’s area.
She was awarded the British Empire Medal in 2013 for her voluntary involvement over many years with around a dozen organisations and received the title of Dundee Citizen of the Year in 2010 for her tireless work to protect vital tenants’ rights and improve housing and wider community services.
Alice travelled down to the ceremony with colleagues including Ilene Campbell, chief executive at TIS, who said: “Her commitment, for almost 30 years, to improving the lives of tenants and wider community services locally and nationally is clear and we are grateful that Alice is an integral member of our team and has played an important role in developing TIS into the organisation it represents today.”
