Have your say on strategy for city land use

LOCALS are being encouraged to help shape the future of building development across Dundee.

Due to be published in 2028, the Local Development Plan (LDP) will set out the land use strategy to guide future development of land and buildings.

Submissions will help Dundee City Council to identify the key issues in the area, and influence how these issues are addressed through LDP.

The overall aim is to create good quality places for people to live, work and play in the city.

The first three topics open for comment are: biodiversity, natural places, trees and soils; town centre first and economy and health and safety.

Councillor Steven Rome, convener of the fair work, economic growth and infrastructure committee, said: “Getting the LDP right will help to make Dundee thrive.

“I am keen that our commitment to community wealth building can be strengthened through the involvement of local firms in major construction projects.

“I would ask anyone with an interest in the future of the city to come forward and give their views on the evidence required to support future development in the city.”

Councillor Will Dawson, convener of the planning committee, said: “I would encourage people to get involved in this evidence gathering phase as the LDP will have a huge influence on what Dundee will look like.

“The LDP will determine what can be built and where, while giving us a framework for taking decisions on applications.

“The plan will focus on delivering high quality design and new housing balanced with protecting existing assets including main shopping streets, green spaces and sites of historic interest.”

Views can be shared on the council’s website or by emailing localdevplan@ dundeecity.gov.uk to request a survey.

Comments on the first three topics should be submitted by May 31.
