Saints gaffer only concerned with winning – and not how they do it

-

STEPHEN Robinson will celebrate his 100th game as St Mirren boss looking to draw further away from European rivals Dundee – and does not care how they do it.

The Northern Irishman took over at the Paisley club in February 2022 and has achieved back-to-back top six finishes with the Buddies, but there is still more to play for in the final four cinch Premiership fixtures.

St Mirren have not won in five matches but are two points ahead of sixthplaced Dundee, whom they visit on today, with fifth place guaranteeing a European spot.

“It seems to have gone very quickly so I obviously have enjoyed myself,” said the former Motherwell and Morecambe boss, who revealed striker Jonah Ayunga and midfielder Kwon Hyeok-kyu, on loan from Celtic, will both miss the end of the season through injury

“Nobody really knew the players we were bringing in or if they did they didn’t think they were good enough, so it is obviously nice that they have come in and done very well.

“Is it a surprise? Not really. Not with what we have got in the dressing room. It has been enjoyable but we want to finish the job off for this season.

“I will take a really poor performance tomorrow and three points. It is the business end of the season where we want to gain points.

“We don’t need to play pretty football, we don’t maybe need to do what we have done all season in trying to control games.

“Both teams just want to win the points and we have to have a steely determination about us not to concede goals.

“They are all big games now.”

Ayunga had a knee operation on Thursday and will be out for the season as will Kwon with a hamstring injury.
