Stitchers showcase their intricate works
A GROUP of Dundee stitchers are showcasing their work at Verdant Works.
Journey So Far contains a variety of works from the Dundee Stitch and Textile Group (DSTG) and will be shown in the museum from May 10 to July 21.
As part of the exhibition, intricate handmade pieces depict beautiful flowers, whimsical woodland scenes and the textures of the seaside.
DSTG was formed in 2021 following the closure of the Dundee and East of Scotland Branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild.
Although their first meetings were via Zoom due to Covid restrictions, the group now meets regularly at Verdant Works.
They host talks, workshops and day schools led by members, as well as tutors and speakers.
Sophie Hinde, heritage manager at Dundee Heritage Trust, said: “It is a pleasure to host this wonderful showcase of the work of DSTG here in our refurbished jute mill.
“We are proud to support local initiatives such as the DSTG and provide a platform to share their beautiful exhibition.”
Moira Dickson of Dundee Stitch and Textile Group said: “Embroidery can be a solitary pastime so to be able to meet with like-minded people, sharing our skills and stories is incredibly beneficial.
“With wellbeing, the buzzword of today, DSTG certainly ticks the box.
“Verdant Works Museum is a great place to meet, with a large space where we can sit, stitch, hold workshops and lectures.
“We are surrounded by history and inspiration, so to be able to hold the first DSTG exhibition here is quite an honour.
“Our exhibition features work made by many of our members, stitchers who range from beginners to experienced.
“We hope visitors to Verdant Works Museum will enjoy the diversity of our work and take the first step to a hugely enjoyable pastime and come and join us.”
