Real reach another European final with late fightback

-

REAL Madrid reached the Champions League final in typically dramatic fashion after two late goals from substitute Joselu saw them come from behind to defeat Bayern Munich.

The newly-crowned Spanish champions had dominated their opponents, with Vinicius Junior in particular causing the German visitors all sorts of problems.

However, it would be the Bundesliga outfit who would go in front midway through the second half.

Alphonso Davies, heavily linked with a move to Real this coming summer, was brought on for the injured Serge Gnabry in the first half and it was he who scored the opening goal in terrific fashion.

Harry Kane’s delicious pass from deep sent Davies free on the lefthand side, he jinked into the box on his right foot before smashing the ball flying past Diego Lunin in the Real goal.

Thomas Tuchel quickly reshuffled the pack with Kane, Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala all coming off with a switch to a more defensive shape chosen to see out the game.

But it was one of Carlo Ancelotti’s substitutions that would have the crucial say.

Joselu, pictured, came on to replace Federico Valverde on 81 minutes and he scored two closerange finishes on 88 and 91 minutes.

There was a sense of destiny about the rest of the game, with Real imperiously making their way into the final of a competition they have dominated more than any other club has managed to do.

But there was to be controversy right at the death; Mathias de Ligt firing the ball into the net as the linesman flagged Bayern’s attack for offside.

The visiting staff and players were incensed play was stopped with the action in full flow, with replays suggesting the offside call was harsh at best.

Real held on from there though and moved into the final, where they will face Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, after the Germans eliminated PSG on Tuesday.
