Big Bus Show is just the ticket to raise £1,000 for charity

-

ALMOST 2,500 visitors enjoyed a charity event about buses.

The Big Bus Show, hosted at Xplore Dundee’s East Dock Street depot, raised £1,000 for Dundee Bairns, a charity dedicated to helping children living in poverty.

Locals enjoyed funfair rides, face painting, a street food zone and free ice cream for children.

There were also rides through the bus wash, tours behind the scenes and a chance for youngsters to experience a driver’s eye view from behind the wheel of an Xplore Dundee training bus.

A line-up of vintage buses could be viewed alongside some of the newest and greenest buses in parent firm Mcgill’s Bus Group fleets.

Displays by the RNLI, Dundee Sea Cadets, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland Tayside, completed the day.

Mcgill’s Bus Group managing director Alex Hornby said: “Days like this make me so proud of Xplore Dundee and every single one of our amazing people from across Mcgill’s who pulled out all the stops to put on a magnificent show for the city.

“The smiles on the faces of the families who joined us said it all – my thanks go to every one of them, and to the exhibitors, vintage vehicle owners and all who made it such a memorable day.

“We’re delighted that as well as having fun together, we raised £1,000 for Dundee Bairns, who work so hard all year round to support school groups and community projects to make sure no child in our city goes without.”

Genna Millar, project manager at Dundee Bairns, said: “Our heartfelt thanks go to all the team at Xplore Dundee for helping us to help Dundee Bairns through donation of proceeds from the Big Bus Show on Saturday.

“It was a wonderful event and a great way to celebrate our community.

“We are always so grateful for the support of our local community.”
