Morgan Academy football teams were so impeccably turned out

Morgan photos to publish a Morgan football calendar.”

The Ontario resident went on: “A couple of years ago, Joe Mcmahon wrote an article on a 1952 final between St John’s Secondary and Morgan Academy.

“A photo of the Johnny’s team – classmates Alec Sharp and Hugh Gourley were in the line-up – was printed with the story.

“The St John’s strips were recycled ‘hand-me-downs’.

“I can’t recall the score, so I wonder if Joe could refresh us, and does he have any memory of the Morgan team attire?”

In answer to Rob’s initial observation… yes, it is probably true that Morgan photos have featured more than most in recent times, but I haven’t really counted.

The explanation for this is simple.

BWB relies heavily on readers sending in these team groups.

A dedicated reader called Bruce ‘Benjy’ Mitchell is a Morgan Academy archivist and, believe me, what he has sent in is really just a mere sprinkling of his very vast and varied collection.

He also shares many of these photos on social media.

I’m entirely grateful to Benjy for this, and he does so in the knowledge that other photos may be given preference as and when they are sent in.

Meanwhile, many still lie in my ‘in tray’ – and will be used as and when required.

Meanwhile, keep sending in your photos of old amateur, junior and school teams. Indeed, anything you feel relevant, along with any names and information you may have.

1964…

Dundee manager Bob Shankly signed 17-yearold goalkeeper David Duncan.

David is a schools international and has just left Blairgowrie High School.

He will remain with Blairgowrie Juniors meantime.

He becomes the No 3 goalkeeper at Dens Park behind Bert Slater and Ally Donaldson.
