Employers should pay missing staff

Evening Telegraph (Late Extra Edition) - - YOURVOICE - Concerned relative.

SO Nicola Sturgeon thinks all employers should pay their staff who were forced to take time off work due to the bad weather — quite rightly so.

She should also tell the HMRC call centre bosses this.

They closed the centre due to bad weather and now, I believe, the employees are paying back the time through flexi hours. That’s double standards by anyone’s means.

AN HMRC spokesman said: “Employees in Dundee are not being asked to pay back time they missed due to adverse weather with their flexi time.

“Appropriate time credits were applied to staff due to work when the office was closed and adverse weather credits were also given to staff who arrived late on the affected days.

“Applications for special leave were also considered and, where possible, granted to cover childcare issues due to school closures.”
