Saints pair are in U/21 squads
ST JOHNSTONE midfield man Kyle Mcclean, who has recently made his top team breakthrough, has been named in the Northern Ireland U/21 squad to face Spain and Iceland in home European Championship qualifying matches.
They take on Spain on the 22nd of this month and Iceland four days later.
Central defender Jason Kerr is in the Scotland U/21 pool to face Andorra away on March 23.
Keith Watson played for 70 minutes of last night’s Development League game against Dundee at Mcdiarmid Park.
He may come into contention for a start when Saints take on Hibs in the Premiership on Friday night.
Jason Kerr’s appeal against his sending off in the loss away to Kilmarnock is held later this week.
If it fails, Watson, who has spent most of the season on loan at Hartlepool, could be brought in to face one of his former clubs.
Saints lost 3-0 to Dundee in the Development League.
The Perth men played for most of the second half with 10 men after Ben Quigley was ordered off for pulling back Cedwyn Scott.
Development League side manager Alex Cleland is without Danny Jardine and Ben Mackenzie who are out on loan just now.
He said of them: “They have been going well.
“Midfield man Danny is at Stirling Albion and goalkeeper Ben is at East Fife.
“Ones that we think will need a better level than the U/20s we put out on loan.
“If we got games like we did against Dundee tonight every week then we would be fine but we don’t get games like that all the time.
“Sometimes the matches are younger games like an U/18s and there is no point playing Danny and Ben in these as they are past that.”
