Karate con­tenders in town

COM­PETI­TORS from all over the world are in Dundee for the sev­enth World Union of Karate Fed­er­a­tions World Cham­pi­onships, which started to­day.

Rep­re­sen­ta­tives from more than 40 coun­tries are the city, which is the first in the UK to host the event.

The con­test is be­ing held at the “melted” Dundee Ice Arena with 110 in­ter­na­tional ref­er­ees and 230 coaches present.

More than 4,000 peo­ple – in­clud­ing ath­letes, in­spec­tors, of­fi­cials and coaches are ex­pected in the city for four days of world-class mar­tial arts.

The com­pe­ti­tion is be­ing hosted by Dundee-based Kanzen Karate Scot­land.
