Bumper en­try at 95th Mod

THE Perthshire and An­gus Pro­vin­cial Mod marked its 95th year with a bumper crop of en­tries.

Com­peti­tors from all over Scot­land flocked to Breadal­bane Academy Com­mu­nity Cam­pus for the two-day event known as the Aberfeldy Mod.

Winners in­cluded Eubha Fraser of Moni­fi­eth in Read­ing the Bible and Solo Singing and Layla Melville, White­hills, in Con­ver­sa­tion.

There were 450 en­tries in the ju­nior sec­tion, with Craig Ste­wart from Perth Academy win­ning the TSB Aberfeldy Branch Tro­phy for high­est ag­gre­gate score.

Aberfeldy Gaelic Choir swept the boards dur­ing the se­nior con­test.

The massed choir event went ahead in the town square, de­spite some wor­ries about the weather.

The Mod was wrapped up with the an­nual Gaelic Songs of Praise.

The com­pe­ti­tion has a broad range of sec­tions such as oral de­liv­ery, which in­cludes read­ing at sight, recit­ing from memory and com­po­si­tion, vo­cal mu­sic in­clud­ing girls and boys solo and choral mu­sic and in­stru­men­tal.
