A strong stance on drug dealers
IT might, to some, look like he’s stating the obvious – but it’s encouraging nonetheless to hear a sheriff conveying such strong views about the impact drug dealers are having on Dundee (see page 2).
Although much has been made about helping those who fall into addiction, a similar focus is needed on the people who peddle these substances to the users – often exploiting them in vulnerable situations.
Dealers are simply out to make money from people’s misery and don’t care for the health or social implications of selling hard drugs in our communities.
They contribute nothing but death and despair to thousands while the vast majority of people get on with leading law-abiding lives. With all that in mind, it’s a positive that sheriffs are prepared to take a hard stance with them.
The sad reality is that there is normally someone else ready to take the place of a dealer who’s been taken off the streets – but as long as the authorities keep targeting them, it makes their lives a whole lot harder.
