A POLICE investigation has been lau nched a fter a woman was assaulted close to Dundee city centre.

The 21-year-old was approached by two people who were known to her before the incident opposite Dundee bus station on Seagate.

Police were called and officers were seen taking statements from a group of women outside an office block close to the scene.

One motorist said police were in the area for well over an hour as they investigated the attack, which is beloved to have taken place on Friday afternoon.

He said: “When I’d come past there were two police vans on the scene.

“Two officers were taking statements from four women.

“It looked like they’d maybe been out shopping as they had a few bags.”

Another eyewitness said he was “shocked” to hear what had happened.

He said: “I thought they had maybe been witnesses to an accident.

“There were only three women at the scene.

“I noticed they had a few shopping bags.

“The woman didn’t appear to be injured or in too much distress.”

He added: “It’s scary to think someone was assaulted in broad daylight.

“Its such a busy area with a lot footfall and traffic.

“You wouldn’t think this type of thing would happen.”

A spokesman for the force said: “Police Scotland are investigating an i ncident on Seagate around 2.20pm on Friday.

“A 21-year-old woman was approached and allegedly assaulted by two persons who are known to her.

“She was not injured, and inquiries are ongoing to trace all persons involved.”
