Devil claim in rape bid case
A MAN who blamed the devil after he tried to rape a woman has been jailed for four years.
Misrak Eyob, 20, was filmed on CCTV attacking the 35-year-old last July after she had become separated from friends after a night out. Eyob pounced as his victim stood alone in a street in Royston, Glasgow.
The African was convicted of attempted rape after a trial at the High Court in Glasgowl a st month. Yesterday Judge Sean Murphy QC locked him up when he returned to the dock, and also ordered that he be supervised for a further two years on his release.
Earlier, a jury was shown foot age of the attack, which happened after the victim had left a bar on July 26 last year.
The incident ended only when the crying victim alerted passers-by to what had happened.
The woman told the trial: “You should be able to walk down the street without someone attacking you.”
Eyob,of the city’s Holland Street, claimed he had been drinking and that he had only been “hugging and kissing” the woman.
Speaking via an interpreter, Eyob told the court: “I believe in the Bible and in Ch r i st . I abide by the rules. I was drinking and it was Satan that created this situation.”
