Man questioned over wife’s murder

Newlywed went missing after body discovered


A NEWLYWED husband who vanished following the discovery of his wife’s body is being questioned in connection with her murder today.

Vicky Roberts, 25, was strangled and her body was dumped in a garage at their home in Runcorn, Cheshire, on Thursday.

A manhunt was launched for her husband Michael Roberts, whom she married six months ago in her home town of Warrington, with detectives appealing for him to contact them.

Mr Roberts , 2 6 , wa s arrested on the street in Wrexham town centre in North Wales after police were tipped off by a member of the public, a Cheshire Police spokeswoma­n said last night.

He was arrested by North Wales Police officers and was transferre­d to Runcorn for questionin­g by Cheshire Police officers.

Police were called to the couple’s third-floor flat in Partington Square, a newly built estate , shortly after 9pm on Thursday.

Cheshire Police revealed they were cont acted by the victim’s father who was con - cerned he had not heard from his daughter.

Officers went to the property where the couple had lived for about a year and discovered her body in a garage. A post-mortem examinatio­n revealed Mrs Roberts had been strangled.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoma­n said : "Following police inquiries a 26-year-old man has been arrested in Wrexham and police appeals for Michael Roberts are now cancelled.”
