Loss of Meredith ‘is life sentence’
I TA LY: The family of murdered British student Meredith Kercher have described their anguish at the loss of their beloved “Mez” as a “life sentence”.
The Kerchers flew home yesterday after the trial in Perugia in which Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were convicted of the Leeds University student’s murder.
Miss Kercher’s mother Arline, from Surrey, said the family had been “living a nightmare” for two years and her over - whelming emotion following the verdicts remained the pain of losing her “vibrant” and “carefree” daughter.
She said: “We’re the ones who have been given a life sentence. We have to live with what’s happened for the rest of our lives. People say time heals – but it doesn’t.”
The long-running trial finally came to a climax late on Friday evening when American Knox, 22, and Italian Sollecito, 25, were found guilty of murder and jailed for 26 and 25 years respectively.
