Four locked up over hoax calls
A M A N l o c ke d u p f o r e i g h t months was among four people jailed in Scotland since April last year for making false alarm calls to emergency services.
The 37-year-old was sentenced in December l a st ye a r at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, while a 17-year-old was locked up for three months at Falkirk Sheriff Court in January this year.
New figures show that hoax calls, false alarms and deliberate fires cost fire and rescue services hundreds of thousands of pounds and wasted hundreds of hours of firefighters’ time.
A Crown Office spokesman said: “We take all crimes that endanger life very seriously.”
