A CALLOUS thief whacked a pregnant woman over the head during a mugging in Glasgow’s West End.

The 27-year-old victim was targeted by the thief as she walked along Crow Road, Anniesland at around 7.50pm on Friday night.

Police say the victim was close to the Morrisons supermarket on the road when a man approached her from behind and struck her on the head.

The blow caused her to fall to the ground and the man grabbed her handbag, which has been described as a mustard colour.

Another man came to the woman’s aid but the suspect had ran off with the bag.

The victim, who was left badly shaken by the incident, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to be checked over my medical staff.

Cops investigating the robbery, from Police Scotland’s specialist unit who are based in Govan, revealed that the suspect was loitering near to the Bank of Scotland at 836 Crow Road between around 7.25pm and 8pm.

During this time, a number of people used the ATM machine at the bank and would have seen this man.

Officers are appealing for the users of the ATM to contact them as they could have relevant information which could assist the invesnoticed tigation and lead to the identification of the suspect.

Detective Sergeant Robert Bowie said: “Enquiries carried out so far show the suspect was loitering in Crow Road near to the bollards at Foulis Lane.

“He has then followed the woman and struck her on the back of the head.

“His actions are cowardly and contemptible and it’s imperative we trace him.”

DS Bowie added: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to consider if you this man, perhaps he caught your eye when he was loitering near the bollards.

“The stolen bag is a mustard coloured handbag, which the suspect may have discarded, if anyone finds the bag, I would ask them to hand it into police as we can examine it for forensic opportunities.

“If anyone has any information or knowledge regarding the incident or the suspect, then please do get in touch.”

The suspect is described as white, and is believed to be in his 30s.

He is around 5ft 7 inches in height with an average build.
