Recycling plant bid
COUNCIL bosses revealed they would take an ailing Glasgow recycling plant into public ownership.
The city announced it would buy a facility opened in 2010 by waste giant Shanks in Blochairn for £4.6million.
Officials hoped the investment would help to boost its traditionally low levels of recycling and cut how much rubbish it dumps in landfill.
Shanks opened its state-of-the-art materials reclamation facility near Blochairn Markets as it invested heavily in recycling.
Council officials said they have a sound business case for keeping the facility – not least because they planned to build their own.
