Frozen pipes puzzler for householders

-

FEWER than 20 per cent of the Glasgow public would know what to do if their pipes freeze, a poll suggests.

A survey revealed 88 per cent are technically savvy and could sort out a blocked Netflix account but only 17 per cent know how to tackle a heating emergency.

Scottish Gas, which carried out the survey, is predicting more than 2,500 engineer call outs across Glasgow, Cumbernauld and Dumbartonshire over the next two weeks to support with problems in the home.

Julie Dickson, a Scottish Gas service and repair engineer based in Glasgow, advises homeowners to insulate the hot water system, bleed radiators and book a boiler inspection for peace of mind before December 25 as well as installing a carbon monoxide alarm. A total of 2,318 people in the UK were polled including 102 in Glasgow.
