Man seized by police over car containing big drugs haul

POLICE deployed their helicopter after a man allegedly bolted from a car containing drugs worth £350,000 in North Glasgow.

The man has been arrested following the incident which happened on Thursday at around 1.55pm in Hawthorn Street.

Police said officers on patrol identified the driver of a vehicle who then stopped his car and made off on foot.

With support from the police helicopter, they traced the man shortly afterwards.

Police Scotland’s dog unit assisted with a search of the vehicle where a quantity of heroin and 8,500 tablets, believed to be Diazepam, were found.

A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with various road traffic and drugs offences.

He was expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Inspector Jim Reid, of Greater Glasgow Serious and Organised Crime Group Disruption Unit, said:“We have taken a significan­t amount of drugs off the street and arrested a man as a result of our officers responding quickly whilst working with specialist resources.”
