Sunday mass cancelled
A CATHOLIC Cathedral gave the boot to Sunday night mass – because parishioners wanted to watch football on the telly.
Church attendances dropped dramatically since Sky began showing live Scottish games on Sunday nights.
Priests gave the red card to the 6.30pm mass at St Mirin’s Cathedral in Paisley, with the blessing of the Church hierarchy.
They would celebrate mass at 4pm instead, letting football-loving Catholics go to church and get home in time to watch the game.
It was the second time football had won over religion.
