Thieves grab First World War medals

Evening Times - - NEWS -

POLICE are hunting thieves who broke into the home of an elderly couple and stole First World War medals.

A five-figure sum of money and jewellery were also taken from the house some time between 10am on Friday, April 19 and 10am last Saturday.

The elderly couple were away celebrating a birthday when the robbers broke into their home just off Cockride Road, in the Cleghorn area of Lanark.

Officers have been speaking to nearby neighbours to try and establish the exact time of the break-in.

Sergeant Brian Scanlan, of Larkhall police office, said: “The elderly couple were away for the weekend celebrating a birthday.

“They have had a number of expensive and sentimental items stolen.

“The theft is thoughtless and selfish.”
