Care work­ers needed ahead of Brexit, claims char­ity

A CARE provider is launch­ing a re­cruit­ment drive amidst fears of a “per­fect storm” of staff short­ages and the im­pact of Brexit.

The [email protected] cam­paign will high­light the var­i­ous roles and op­por­tu­ni­ties in the sec­tor, with a spe­cific fo­cus on at­tract­ing those from non-care re­lated back­grounds, and men.

The com­pany said the num­ber of va­can­cies in the sec­tor is in­creas­ing, with the lat­est data from the

Care In­spec­torate in­di­cat­ing 38 per cent of ser­vices have va­can­cies.

There are fears Brexit could ex­ac­er­bate the prob­lem be­cause it could lead to lower lev­els of im­mi­gra­tion to Scot­land.

EU na­tion­als cur­rently ac­count for 5.6% of staff in the care sec­tor north of the bor­der, with 42% of care ser­vices re­cruit­ment over­seas com­ing from the EU.
