Man charged with sex­ual as­sault near uni

A MAN has been charged with the rape of a woman near Glas­gow Univer­sity fol­low­ing a spate of at­tacks in the area.

The 34-year-old had al­ready ap­peared in court ear­lier this week charged with two sex­ual as­saults on women near the cam­pus on Oc­to­ber 17 and 24.

Of­fi­cers in­ves­ti­gat­ing the case say the same man has now been charged with the “se­ri­ous sex­ual as­sault” of a 20-year-old woman on Oc­to­ber 31.

He ap­peared in court on Thurs­day, November 21.

De­tec­tive In­spec­tor Suzanne McNulty of the Pub­lic Pro­tec­tion Unit in Go­van said: “Of­fi­cers in Glas­gow car­ried out en­quiries fol­low­ing a re­port three woman had been the vic­tim of sex­ual as­saults in the West End be­tween 17 and 31 Oc­to­ber.

“Ex­ten­sive en­quires were on­go­ing into these in­ci­dents which were linked fol­low­ing in­for­ma­tion which came to light fol­low­ing the third at­tack.

“A 34-year-old man was ar­rested on the 2 November and has now been charged in con­nec­tion with two sex­ual as­saults on 17 and 24 Oc­to­ber, and a se­ri­ous sex­ual as­sault on 31 Oc­to­ber.”
