Kuyt: Securing title win is everything for Gerrard
DIRK KUYT reckons manager Steven Gerrard would savour a title win as much as the Rangers support if he could lead his side to Premiership glory this season.
The Govan side are level on points with Celtic at the top of the table after an impressive start to the campaign and hopes are high among supporters that this could finally be the Gers’ year to end their long wait for silverware success.
Gerrard has made a significant impact on and off the field since arriving at Ibrox from Liverpool last summer to begin his managerial career.
And former Reds striker Kuyt is pleased to see the Anfield legend making his mark in the dugout this season.
“He has done really well and from the first day he has been here he has been working hard to get the club back to where they belong,” Kuyt said. “Of course I have followed him as a former team-mate and a friend.
“I was at Ibrox a few weeks ago for the Feyenoord match and I watched him closely and his team closely and I was impressed with the effort that the team was putting into the game and the quality on the pitch.
“He is doing a great job and I think from here on he will only do better.
“I think what it (a title win) would mean to the club and the supporters, it would mean as much to him. He is a winner and he will try to do everything to win trophies. That is what it is all about for him.
“He wants to be the best and only the best is good enough for him. It would be a massive achievement for him if he could do, not only for Steven but also for this football club.
“It is great to see where the club was a few years ago and where they are now and how much they have improved. They will keep progressing and it is impressive what Stevie is doing here.”
