Christie rises to the top as Celtic cruise to victory

Evening Times - - SPORT -

RYAN Christie moved to the top of the Celtic scoring charts with a first-half double as the Parkhead club cruised to a comfortable win over Ross County in Dingwall.

Tom Rogic and Mikey Johnston both netted in the second-half as the triple treble winners recorded their 10th consecutive victory in all competitions.

Christie went close to opening the scoring for Celtic in the sixth minute after Lewis Morgan was brought down by Sean Kelly just outside the Ross County area.

The Scotland midfielder beat goalkeeper Nathan Baxter with his attempt only to be denied by the post. But he put the visitors in front five minutes later after referee Nick Walsh ruled that Keith Watson had kicked Morgan at a corner.

Christie’s spot-kick was weak and was easily saved by Baxter, but he pounced on the rebound and netted.

The home team drew level in the 24th minute after Celtic right-back Jeremie Frimpong bundled over Ross Stewart.

Tom Rogic failed to deal with a Josh Mullin free-kick into his penalty box and Stewart nodded beyond Fraser Forster from a few yards out. But Christie put the away side back in front six minutes before half-time after getting on the end of a Kristoffer Ajer through ball, taking his tally for the season at club level to 15 and ahead of Edouard in the scoring charts.

Callum McGregor struck the post after firing through Watson’s legs from the edge of the County penalty box in the 59th minute before the Glasgow club increased their lead eight minutes later following good work by Morgan. Rogic’s shot was deflected past Baxter off Stewart.

Mikey Johnston came on for Rogic and added a fourth shortly after taking to the field. He received the ball from Greg Taylor on the left wing in the 73rd minute, outsprinted Ricky Foster and fired a powerful shot beyond Baxter.
