New drug available
A NEW drug has been made available for people in Scotland with a blood cancer that has “unbearable” symptoms.
Polycythaemia vera (PV), an overproduction of red blood cells, is diagnosed in around 100 people in Scotland each year.
It can increase the risk of blood clots, heart attack and stroke, and can also develop into leukaemia.
The Scottish Medicines Consortium announced PV can now be treated with ruxolitinib.
