‘Suspicious package’ found near Parliament
A STREET in central Edinburgh was closed off yesterday afternoon after a suspicious package was discovered near to the Scottish Parliament.
Police were called to Holyrood Road in the city centre just after 1.30pm with a cordon put in place to close off the route.
It has been reported the item was found in Gullan’s Close.
A bomb disposal squad was sent to the scene, with footage on social media showing a controlled explosion being carried out.
A robot from the specialist team was dispatched to inspect the item.
The busy road saw traffic rerouted, while the west to east section of Holyrood Park was also closed off to the public.
Buildings nearby were also evacuate while the investigation was under way.
