City’s fes­tive shop­ping spree splurge

THOU­SANDS of shop­pers took to the streets dur­ing the last week­end be­fore Christmas.

Glas­gow’s Buchanan Street, Ar­gyle Street and

Sauchiehal­l Street were buzzing with rev­ellers – while the Forge, Brae­head and Sil­ver­burn Shop­ping Cen­tres also had notable suc­cess.

Stores en­joyed a fes­tive boost amid a last-ditch spend­ing surge just days be­fore Christmas.

Across the UK, nine mil­lion shop­pers are ex­pected to spend a record £1.2bil­lion in just six hours to­day.

That works out at around £3.3mil­lion ev­ery minute as shop­pers try to bag items on what has be­come known as “Stam­pede Sun­day”.
