Busi­ness ‘thriv­ing’ in Scot­land says Mackay

FI­NANCE Sec­re­tary Derek Mackay has claimed that the SNP is the “party of busi­ness” af­ter fig­ures re­vealed the num­ber of pri­vate­sec­tor firms in Scot­land is at a record level.

Sta­tis­tics pub­lished by the Scot­tish Govern­ment show the num­ber of pri­vate­sec­tor busi­nesses op­er­at­ing in the coun­try has risen by more than a quar­ter since 2007 (279,940) to a to­tal of 356,550 in 2019 – with Mackay say­ing busi­ness was “thriv­ing”.

The fig­ures, dat­ing back to the start of the new mil­len­nium, in­di­cate the num­ber has risen steadily each year since 2000.
