HOUSEHOLDERS across the west of Scotland were stuck with overflowing bins as refuse lorries were frozen out of icy streets by the big chill.
Plunging temperatures badly hit wheelie bin collections at their busiest time after the festive season.
It led to rubbish piling up on housing estates across the country. Refuse vehicles were struggling to cope with icy snowpacked side roads but householders were told not to “panic”.
