- BY RUTH SUTER

PLANNING permission to build a new Boclair Academy has been given the go- ahead for Bearsden.

The new school will be built within the grounds of Boclair Academy and will replace the existing school building.

Main works are due to begin in January with the building set to open in Summer 2022.

Joint leader of East Dunbartonshire Council Councillor Vaughan Moody said: “This decision by the Planning Board allows us to move forward with delivering a state- of- the- art new secondary school to replace the existing Boclair Academy within Bearsden.

“This is welcome news for the school and the local community.”

“This will greatly enhance the educational experience for all who attend now and in the future.”

Subject to Council approval, an enabling works phase will commence during the October break and continue until Christmas.
