Seiuli ready to return after spell on the sidelines

- STUART BATHGATE

AFTER stomping around Scotstoun feeling like Captain Hook for a while as he recovered from a broken thumb, Aki Seiuli is fit again and ready to resume the fight for the Glasgow Warriors number one jersey.

The injury kept the 27- yearold loosehead out of the two end- of- season games against Edinburgh, and with Alex Allan and George Thornton also ruled out, head coach Danny Wilson had to recruit an on- loan back- up for Oli Kebble. But now, as they look forward to Saturday’s first game of the new Pro14 season against Connacht, all four props are in contention for a place, with Seiuli particularly eager to return to return after maintaining his fitness well while sidelined.

“It was a chip on the bone on my thumb,” he said yesterday. “I was training and had recently got back from a hamstring injury. Right at the very last tackle of the training session I banged it on one of the boys’ legs and just chipped the bone. It swelled up after that so I had to put on a cast for three weeks.

“I was still doing a bit of running. I could do most things. With the gym stuff I was still keeping a lot on my good side. I had this wee strap with a hook on it – I was walking around like Captain Hook, trying to meet the criteria of not losing too much strength on my bad side.”
