Blaze rips through Merchant City beer garden

FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze at the site of a huge beer garden in the city centre.

Emergency crews were called to the Festival Village site on Wilson Street on Thursday night to combat a fire that started in a garden shed.

One fire engine was sent to the scene and extinguished the blaze, above.

There were no reports of any injuries. It comes after we reported on a bid to renew a one-off licence to host a beer garden on the site which can seat more than 300 people.

It was, however, rejected by planning chiefs.
