Cops surround Ibrox stadium

-

OFFICERS surrounded Ibrox Stadium as Rangers played Celtic yesterday afternoon.

Riot vans and mounted officers were seen surrounding the South Side stadium amid fears fans may gather in a repeat of last month’s title celebrations.

Cops surrounded the stadium to discourage mass gatherings, which are still against restrictions. However, no fans arrived at the stadium.

Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland, local police commander for the Greater Glasgow Division, said: “Appropriate policing plans are in place to maintain public safety ahead of events and football matches across the country.

“We will continue to liaise with our partners including the Scottish Government to ensure these matches can be completed safely and to minimise the risk to both our officers and the public.

“Police Scotland will also support football clubs in urging fans to take personal responsibility, do the right thing and follow the coronavirus regulations around gatherings.”
