Owners of returned dog to refund reward cash

-

OWNERS of a dog taken from its home have decided to refund donations for a reward.

Almost £2500 was raised after David Waters and Caitlin Maley revealed Cairo was taken in a “brutal raid” by knife-wielding thugs on Wednesday.

Officers launched an appeal to trace three men wearing balaclavas following the incident.

However, the pup was happily reunited with the Pollok couple after being found by the side of a Shettleston road.

In a Facebook post, Caitlin revealed they decided to refund the cash raised for a reward intended for the person who would return the dog to them.

It reads: “The last few days have been the hardest days ever, everyone done everything they could to get Cairo home to us.

“Social media is amazing at times but also it’s a horrible place, everyone wanted to help find Cairo & now he’s been found it’s now a scam?

“We would never lie about this, the police are investigating and will find out who done this, we just hope it’s soon.”

Initially, the funds were going to be given to the woman who found Cairo in Shettleston.

“We were just so over the moon we got him back, we have now carefully thought about it and don’t feel it’s right to give the GoFundMe money away as that was purely for anyone who had any information or could get him back to us.

“Everyone will be refunded.

“We are giving a reward from our own money to which was agreed to start so the couple will receive this payment from us.

“We were just in the moment and thought giving the money was the right thing but have now realised it isn’t.”
