Trouten aims for quick comeback with Alloa

- IAIN COLLIN

ALAN TROUTEN insists Alloa will do all they can to target instant promotion to the Championship next season but has warned they face a huge battle.

The Wasps were relegated after Kevin Cawley’s first-half opener was overhauled by a Gozie Ugwu penalty and Dylan Tait’s winner in Raith Rovers’ 2-1 victory.

Alloa were aggrieved by the red card shown to goalkeeper Neil Parry in giving away the spot-kick and were enraged when referee Greg Aitken waved away claims Trouten was felled in the box by Jamie MacDonald late on. But the 35-year-old confessed there was more to relegation than Saturday’s defeat.

“It’s a sickener but it’s not this game that’s got us relegated,” he said. “We’ve won four out of 25, which hasn’t been good enough. We’ve played well against Raith but it’s over the season that’s cost us.

“We’re not making any excuses. Four victories from 25 games is embarrassing. There’s no beating about the bush, it’s not going to keep you in any league.

“The important thing is for the club to get back. The club’s well run and everyone will be desperate to get the club back to the Championship.

“It won’t be an easy league. I’ve been there many a time. Queen’s Park are going to come up, they’ll be full time, you’ll also have Cove Rangers or Falkirk or Partick Thistle still down there and there’s still very well run part-time teams.

“It’s not a case of being down and straight back up. Everyone needs to know how difficult it will be, but we’ll give it our best.”
