of us remember BBC Radio programmes from the Fifties and Sixties when the tuneful musical accompaniment to many comedy shows was often played by the BBC Variety Orchestra conducted by Paul Fenoulhet or the BBC Revue Orchestra under the baton of Harry Rabinowitz.

Paul died in 1979 but Harry reached his century last March only to die in June. Remarkably, during the Fifties many of the shows went out live so there was no room for mistakes. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Harry studied over here at the Guildhall School of Music and after a full life, retired to Oregon in the USA.
