Does anyone remember The Rustiks?
That is the question posed by Lyndy Ogier of Adelaide, South Australia, who recalls enjoyable nights with her friend Elizabeth watching the group perform at venues in Paignton and Torquay. Popular throughout Devon, The Rustiks won a South West TV competition and were signed up by no less a figure than The Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein. Two singles followed, “What A Memory Can Do”/“Hello Anne” ( 1964) and “I’m Not The Loving Kind”/“Can’t You See?” ( 1965), written by band members Dave Gummer and Rob Tucker, but the sudden death of Epstein in 1967 put paid to any further progress.
