Does any­one re­mem­ber The Rustiks?

That is the ques­tion posed by Lyndy Ogier of Ade­laide, South Aus­tralia, who re­calls en­joy­able nights with her friend El­iz­a­beth watch­ing the group per­form at venues in Paign­ton and Torquay. Pop­u­lar through­out De­von, The Rustiks won a South West TV com­pe­ti­tion and were signed up by no less a fig­ure than The Bea­tles’ man­ager Brian Epstein. Two sin­gles fol­lowed, “What A Me­mory Can Do”/“Hello Anne” ( 1964) and “I’m Not The Lov­ing Kind”/“Can’t You See?” ( 1965), writ­ten by band mem­bers Dave Gum­mer and Rob Tucker, but the sud­den death of Epstein in 1967 put paid to any fur­ther progress.
