Not so cool

- Richard Nichols

I feel the need to have a moan at Lamborghini. Not a big one, but a moan nonetheless, at the apparent laziness of its engineers.

Whilst reading through your test of the Sián (evo 284), I turned the page to reveal a full-page picture of the car’s engine bay. Wow! But unfortunately my eyes were quickly drawn not to the important oily bits, but the coolant tank from the Sián’s lesser (much lesser) VAG siblings that is positioned so prominently at the rear of the engine. It’s a bit like looking at a full Savile Row suit finished off with a pair of £15 Next cufflinks!

Now I understand the importance of parts sharing, but for Lamborghini to just ‘drop it in’ like they have seems like a massive faux pas, especially on a £2.6million car. Surely you would spend a little more time and effort to hide it?

But then perhaps Lamborghini knows that the lucky 63 who have bought a Sián will have other automotive art forms in multicar collections in various posh garages all over the world, and will probably have teams of people who manage their collections too, so have no need to check the car’s vitals themselves.

All that said, I do like the Sián, and the fact that Lamborghini is fighting tooth and nail to keep big naturally aspirated engines alive and kicking should be applauded.
