Lauda and proud

THERE CANNOT BE A SINGLE EVO READER WHO WASN’T saddened by Niki Lauda’s death in 2019. He was a great racer and a true professional, as well as being refreshingly outspoken.

What a fitting tribute, therefore, that Gordon Murray has named the track-going version of his upcoming T.50 supercar after the great man himself: T.50s Niki Lauda. Hats off to you, Gordon, you are a true gentleman. What a noble gesture and a fitting dedication to the memory of Niki. The fact that the T.50 will probably go down in history as a pure engineering masterpiece and timeless classic (as did the Mclaren F1) will keep Niki’s name in lights for many years to come.

In terms of the car itself, there surely isn’t a petrolhead on the planet who can’t wait to see and hear it on road or track. It could well be the supercar of the decade – as we know, Gordon Murray has that rare ability to make cars that simply transcend all others.
