The real supercars

-

RICHARD MEADEN BEMOANS THE FACT THAT NEW supercars do not have the same aura of supercars of old because their makers are saturating the market with endless new models and large production volumes (column, evo 291). But there are true supercars out there. Rare, impossibly expensive, beautifully engineered and, most importantly of all, owned by drivers not poseurs. People we secretly envy rather than laugh at.

Eagle E-types, Singer Porsches, Alfaholics’ GTA-R, GTO Engineering’s Squalo, Thornley Kelham’s Lancia Aurelia B20GT, Stoschek’s Lancia Stratos, Touring’s Disco Volante… to name but a few.

Ultimate restomods or custom-built cars like the above are the supercars of today. See one, hear one, or drive one and you will know why. And yes, like Enzo, their makers also often decide if you are the right person to sell one to!
