Not so Supra

-

Before my last car purchase at the end of July, I’d had four Toyotas, from the first MR2 that I bought over 30 years ago to the Aygo I ran alongside my TVR. I never had a problem with the service I’ve received, either when buying one, having one serviced or having a problem sorted on the rare occasion one occurred.

My latest, a 2019 Supra 3.0 GR,

could not be more different. It has been a nightmare from the moment the dealer took my deposit. Problems getting the car from another location, only one key, no V5. I could go on about the lack of customer service but what I should have realised before buying the car is that with the Supra being partly BMW, no one at Toyota would have the first clue about them.

The Supra Connect app won’t accept the VIN number of my car, so with the dealer being clueless, I spoke to the ‘experts’ at Toyota – who apparently just raise a support ticket with BMW and await a response. Shortly afterwards Apple Carplay disappeared as an option when connecting my phone to the car. Firstworld problems, I know, but no one at Toyota seems able to help.

Perhaps I should have bought that M2 after all… Steven Pejica
